Glorious shuffle brought this song to my ears tonight, and I remembered what I thought the first time I listened to it.
I like this song. I like the guy's voice, and the lyrics, and the strings and piano. I post the video not because I think it's particularly good, though it has things I like; it's mostly because it's proved to be easier than to embed the song.
My interpretation of the lyrics is just that, an interpretation, because nothing in them implies that he's speaking to a woman he now has a romantic interest in. It could just as well be "Hey guys, I'm sorry I was out of reach while I dated that bitch.. Hey! That rhymes!". But well, here's what I thought:
What if she never showed to pick him up? Maybe the guy wrote this beautiful and heartfelt song, went looking for her and she was already gone.. Then the song turns out to be the first single off of his new album, is played everywhere, all his fans love it, and he has to sit at the piano onstage to play it, and sing "come pick me up", but she never did.. and doesn't that hurt?
So, if it was about a girl, I hope she showed up.
[Am I wrong to assume that this particular song is autobiographical? I'd expect most songs that "seem so" not to be, at least not entirely, but this one sounds like it is, 100%.]

No sé por qué mataron el embedding de este video, pero si buscan "ben folds landed" YouTube, aparece.
